Fireball Full Moon Party
at the Cyber Café

Flaming fireballs!

A full moon in the BVI is something special. An option to the raucous party at The Bomba Shack is the Fireball Full Moon Party presented by Jeremy Wright, the owner of the Cyber Café and Aragorn of Aragorn’s Studio. Held on the beach with flaming torches and unique flaming moon balls, it is a spectacle for the entire family. Check the Cyber Café website for the schedule of full moon parties. —MB

The docks are within walking distance of the airport. This can be convenient for crew members who may be flying in late, or departing the islands before the end of your cruise. Cab service is available for those who either have a lot luggage or need to travel to Tortola for more serious provisioning.

The businesses around Trellis Bay include a number of restaurants, coffee shops, and a well-equipped Cyber Café. There is a full array of Mac and PC computers CD burners and printers, all connected to the internet via high speed DSL. Or, use their wireless connection from the beach to stay connected to the rest of the world. The Cyber Café is also the home of BVI Boardsailing, offering wind surfing lessons and board rentals. Trellis Bay is a good place to learn windsurfing and many charterers stop by to rent boards to take along on the cruise.

Trellis Bay has gift stores featuring the work of local artisans and the Trellis Bay Market for light provisioning.

Shopping in Aragorn’s Studio

Aragorn’s Studio offers a unique selection of specialty gifts. Worth the stop.

Aragorn Studios offers a selection of local art as well as its signature copper sculptures along with woodcut and painted tee-shirts. Pottery and art classes are available and may be an option for a relaxing day ashore. Check Aragorn’s web site for more information on classes or call and schedule one for your crew. Aragorn will often dinghy out to the anchored boats to display and sell an assortment of crafts, jewelry, art, tee-shirts and local fruit from his shop.

On the south end of Trellis Bay is the Beef Island Guest House and De Loose Mongoose Bar and Restaurant, a great place to stop for lunch or dinner with a happy hour from 5–7pm. Every Sunday evening they have a barbeque with live entertainment. During the day, Trellis Bay is a busy place with arriving and departing passenger ferries and airplanes overhead. This activity quiets down at night with options to dine ashore at The Last Resort on Bellamy Cay. And, until 8:00pm, ferry service is available to Marina Cay.

Funny and Fresh

A night at the Last Resort is still funny and fresh, the food is good and the memories even better. There is a fine dinghy dock on the island, or you may take advantage of M/V LAST RETORT, the cay’s ferry that leaves periodically from its dock near the North Sound Express. If moored in Marina Cay, give them a call on VHF 16 or call 495.2520 and LAST RETORT will be dispatched to pick you up.

Bellamy Cay

The islet is known for the Last Resort, a dinner house made famous by comedian-musician Tony Snell and by Chocolate, a rum- and wine-swilling brown donkey.

Tony and Jackie Snell opened the original Last Resort on Little Jost in 1971 and moved the restaurant and act to Bellamy Cay. For over 25 years, Tony’s act was a must see by crewed and bareboat charterers alike. He knew most of the charter skippers and his comic routine was interspersed with disparaging remarks about each boat, its lack of seaworthiness, the captain’s excessive drinking or the salad girl’s reputation ashore. It was very funny and was topped off by Chocolate sticking her head through a hole in a door in the back of the stage. With her mouth, she picked up a bottle of Cruzan Gold off a stool and downed it lickity-split. She did the same with wine from fancy stemware without spilling a drop or breaking the glass. Chocolate is no longer with us. Rumor has it that she contracted some minor ailment and the vet ordered a temporary halt to her tippling. The sudden sobriety was more than she could handle, and she passed away from rum deprivation, not the original ailment. The cause of Chocolate’s demise is rumor, but we must never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

The comedic baton has been passed to Peter Merrigan and a trio of island dogs that accompany him when he sings.
