Botany Bay & Sandy Bay

The Preserve at Botany Bay

This idyllic anchorage is about to go through a major change on shore. The land around Sandy and Botany Bays will be developed into some 45 home sites ranging from 3 to 14 acres in size and a luxury 5-Star hotel and spa resort. While development always raises questions about the stewardship of the land, it appears the objective for this development will be to maintain the natural beauty of this area.

A treacherous gash has been cut in the side of the hill to the right and behind Botany Bay as part of a heavy-handed but futile attempt at creating an access road. It is so steep and rocky that no street vehicle could possibly use it. An abandoned stone foundation is visible on the left side of bay but there are no other buildings. The coconut-palm backdrop to both lobes of Botany Bay is reminiscent of the South Pacific.

Sandy Bay is shallower than Botany and there are a few houses near the beach. A nice anchorage in white sand and 15 feet of water is on the left side of the bay (keep the white house slightly south).

In normal easterly weather, landing a dinghy poses no problem anywhere along the beach at Botany Bay and a soft landing in Sandy Bay can be found on the left side.
