The Bight

Enjoy a unique experience at the only pirate-ship style restaurant: William Thornton (Willie T) or, for landlubbers, Pirates offers a good fare. Stroll the small beach in front of Pirates, snorkel at the Caves, or take the hiking trail up to Water Point.

Willie T

Arriving at the William Thornton.

Scores of Moor Seacure mooring balls and some marked “Billy Bones” fill the bay almost to the entrance. There is one mooring-free basin threequarters of the way inside the bay toward Pirates restaurant ashore. One or two boats can anchor in 25 feet.

Norman Island

When arriving late, the best chance of finding a mooring is in the vicinity of Pirates or the WILLIAM THORNTON. Be aware that festivities at both continue late into the night and the sound of a Caribbean party in full swing carries across the water.

For a quiet night’s sleep, be as far away as you can from either evening hotspot. A preferred mooring spot is Kelly’s Cove just inside Water Point. There are several mooring balls and a small amount of room for 1–2 boats to anchor. It is the most serene area in The Bight but still only a short dinghy ride from The Caves, the Willie T. and Pirates. A dinghy dock is located at Pirates and another on the port side of the Willie T.

Restaurants

William Thornton Restaurant and Bar

Better known as the Willie T., this floating barge in the shape of a pirate ship caters strictly to the visiting cruising crowd with reasonably good food served from a small kitchen on board. The atmosphere is informal. Pull up in your dinghy, climb aboard and sit down at a picnic table for dinner. After dinner, proceed to the bar where the festivities are usually in full swing. Watch for drinking challenges which occasionally result in the patrons, in varying degrees of disrobement, performing cannonball dives off the sterncastle. The dinghy dock is sometimes crowded with dinghies tied three deep and some set a small stern anchor in case their dinghy is accidentally set free.

Pirates Restaurant and Bar

Also known for late night parties, Pirates keeps the fun on dry land. If you stop by for lunch you might consider lingering on the white sand beach. Pirates features two happy hours from 4pm-6pm and again from 10pm-12am.
