Sandy Cay

Beautiful white sand beach and a few palm trees with a nature trail around the island. Great snorkeling on the reef.

Sandy Cay aerial

Sandy Cay is an ideal place to stop mid-day while on the way to or from Jost Van Dyke. Dinghy or swim from the boat to shore or for snorkeling on the reef. Use caution when landing a dinghy if the swell causes a breaking surf on the beach. Once on the beach, enjoy the white sand or take a hike around this small cay on the nature trail. The interior of the island is filled with seagrape, coconut palms and a small pond. Watch carefully as the cay is home to many species of reptiles, birds and insects.

When the seas are flat, the reef offers excellent snorkeling. Sandy Cay, originally owned by the Laurence Rockefeller estate, was donated to the BVI National Parks Trust. Recently scientists have recognized that a unique ecosystem exists on Sandy Cay and are researching its many inhabitants.
