Anchoring in White Bay

Over the years I have anchored in White Bay on Jost perhaps a dozen times. I have spent only four or five nights there, but each was an adventure in insomnia.

White Bay

Perhaps it was bacd luck as ever single night spent in White Bay was rolly misery, deck to deck, all night long. The last time, I decided to beat the sea gods and threw out a stern anchor, pointed the bow toward the swell and slept the sleep of the innocent. But, of course, in defying the gods, I suffered their wrath.

Atonement was only accomplished by hours unwinding the stern anchor rod from the prop shaft where it wound itself tighter than a publisher’s purse string as soon as I put it in gear.

For me the moral is obvious, visit White Bay, eat there, drink there, but spend the night in Little or Great Harbour.
